TT Ensemble Update -- December 2007


The following report is to keep you informed of NAJIT's TT Ensemble's progress:

  1. On 10/24/07 there was a limited-participation telephone conference among Dr. Alan Melby. BYU's student Jake Karcsi & Jeck Navarrete

  2. In this teleconference Dr. Melby announced Jake Karcsi as a new
    consultant/programmer joining our Task Force

  3. Jake Karcsi's interest and collaboration are well received

  4. Under Dr, Melby's direction he is to continue and advance the "alpha-January 2007" version of the now existing Transcription Tool

  5. Under my direction, we have reached over 30 successful installations of the "alpha-January 2007"

  6. As the installs were done, we gathered information to provide to the programmers

  7. We have also gathered the following information/suggestions from selected transcription practitioners and this information was shared with Dr. Melby, Marc Carmen & Jake Karcsi in preparation for the 10/24/07
    teleconference:

    A. The Jan 2007 version 1.a for the Transcription Tool software has been successfully installed by 35 individuals

    B. Bug detected:

    a. This bug has been detected after running the Transcription Tool software

    b. Mouse touch pad freezes (touch pad was working properly before, user did not perform any change of settings)

    c. When accessing Control Panel the Touch pad shows "Disabled"

    d. User has to reset touch pad setting for it to work again

    C. Programming Suggestions -

    a. Placing a "main menu bar" at the top of the program's screen

    b. Menu options to be consistent with Menu Options found in the majority of other programs such as:

    File
    Edit
    View
    Create

    b. Exporting compatibility with column and/or table text format

    c. Transcription Tool software to have the ability to float over a word processing screen

    d. Ability to change low frequency cutoff (This feature is found in the recently updated version of Express Scribe download available from (http://www.nch.com.au/scribe/)

    e. Transcription Tool able to "recall" position in audio file at the time of closing the file and/or program (This feature is also found in the recently updated version of Express Scribe (http://www.nch.com.au/scribe/)

    f. Visual WAV file representation

    g. Ability to select WAV file start and ending segments by clicking on the visual WAV screen

  8. Dr. Melby & Jake Karcsi were in attendance at the ATA Conference in San Francisco were they met with NAJIT's executive director Andy Ozols

  9. In a separate e-mail I am sharing with all of you the information provided to Andy regarding TT Ensemble, you may find this informative

  10. As we stand we continue to progress in the development of the Transcription Tool software
