Previously, I have shared that my background is in accounting and, before interpreting, I was an accounting manager at several big companies and then I started offering the same services on a freelance basis.
Well, doing the calculations, when I started working in person as an interpreter back in 2007, I was earning an average of $20 dollars per hour more than I did in accounting and, to me, that was like a miracle. And I was doing something that I love. It was not until many, many years later that I learned the amount I was earning was not adequate for the level of skills I needed to have to be successful in this profession.
